Assistant Professor

Annop Chhina, MD- Associate Residency Program Director, HFH

https://www.henryford.com/physician-directory/c/chhina-anoop

I completed my residency in Anesthesiology at Henry Ford Hospital in 2016. Post residency, I completed a fellowship in critical Care Anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic that significantly added on to my skills and expertise. I came back as staff Critical Care Anesthesiologist at Henry Ford Hospital in July 2017; I spend about 25-30% of my time in ICU and rest in the Operating Room. The focus of the earlier part of my career as a Board-certified anesthesiologist has largely been in the realms of resident education and quality assurance. I am currently Associate Program Director for the Residency program in the Department of Anesthesiology at Henry Ford Health, I have served in this role since August 2019. Since my joining, we have made major improvements in the training in terms of didactics, workshops, hands on training and clinical exposure. I primarily lead the PGY 1 curriculum and didactic curriculum for our residents. In addition, I hold position of chair for residency Clinical Competency Committee, and ensure quality education and competency for our residents.  I am also actively involved in critical care anesthesiology fellowship program, and hold the position of Clinical Competency Chair for the fellowship. I am involved in various research projects and serve as a mentor for residents and fellows engaging in scholarly activity. I am active member of various committees in anesthesiology and critical care, and represent our department well at national level. During pandemic, I held the position of Chief of COVID taskforce for the department of anesthesiology. Early March 2020, the COVID-19 wave in Detroit area was imminent, I coordinated with various departments including infection control and surgical services to prepare anesthesia and surgical services staff for the surge. In that situation when there were so many unknowns, and overall a stressful situation, my leadership and communication skills helped me standardize the protocols and this ensured safety of patients and staff. I worked extremely well in high pressure, high stake situation, kept a clam demeanor, used my excellent navigational skills to keep all surgical sub-specialty departments on the same page, and we were able to have a standardized approach for managing the COVID patients in surgical and procedural areas. I attended numerous meetings at the organization levels, was the voice of anesthesia department and kept my team members safe when they were at the risk of being exposed to the deadly virus during managing the airway of the COVID positive patients. My ability to adapt, anticipate and think ahead proved extremely helpful not only to the anesthesia department, but the organization as a whole.

If given an opportunity, I assure you that I will represent you well in the Executive Committee, and use my leadership skills to help our MSUCHM department of anesthesiology achieve great heights. Thank you for your consideration.
